SUMIDOURO

The Sumidouro Coat of Arms has been adopted by the Municipal Council (decision number 284, 4th december 1970) signed by the Mayor Paulo FREITAS, and thence its use become obligatory on all official documents.

There is no records about the identity of the arms author(s).

The five towers show the city rank. The shield is surrounded in he left side by a coffee branch and in the right by a sugar-cane in order to underline the agricultural basis of its history and economy. The upper-left side of the shield shows an indian feather crown and two crossed arrows, which reminds the myth of Ceci and Peri and the oposition betwen the founding cultures : indian and christian-european (simbolized by the main catholic church). The rose simbolizes the floriculture (in its beginning by the early seventies). Down-right we can see the Conde d'Eu falls and the Paquequer river.
